I am excited to announce that my book, Midnight Train
from Georgia, has won Third Place in the Non-Fiction-Memoir-Portrait
category of The 2024 BookFest Fall international competition! This award is a
wonderful recognition of the incredible journey of Gladys Knight and the Pips,
a story that resonates deeply with themes of family, faith, and the
transformative power of music.
Midnight Train from Georgia chronicles the group's
inspiring rise from humble beginnings singing in a small Atlanta church to
their well-deserved induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The book
follows William Guest's journey, from his youth spent listening to gospel music
on his family's porch to the challenges and triumphs experienced on the road to
stardom. It highlights the intertwining destinies of two families brought
together by their shared passion for music at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Readers
will witness the formation of The Pips gospel choir, featuring young cousins
William Guest, Eleanor Guest, Gladys Knight, Brenda Knight, and Bubba Knight,
and their evolution into an iconic musical group.
